So I've had Filipino food before but at a couple of restaurants. One of them being Manila Bay Ihaw Ihaw in Kansas City, where they serve a huge bilao platter which includes a bunch of Filipino dishes. I'm going to apologize in advance for any mispronunciations. I'm going to try my best at naming the dishes. The platter had fried pork hock, fried pork belly, roasted chicken, grilled milkfish, grilled shrimp, barbeque pork skewers, grilled pompano, stuffed squid, scallops, mussels, pancit, blue crab, and sisig, which is a Filipino pork dish. They served asparagus, bok choy, and lumpia on the side. There was not a single dish that I did not like. I got to sit down with the owner and chef Norma as we ate through the platter and I learned more about her background. She also served some halo-halo and flan cake. Her restaurant is temporarily closed as they are preparing their new location but please check them out when they reopen in Kansas City. Also, I want to try and cook some Filipino dishes, so please let me know some recipes that I should give a try.
