How my family celebrates the 1st day of the Lunar New Year

My parents read my sign this year and said that I will be good luck for them if I broke their threshold for the Lunar New Year. So they asked me to come over to become their first visitor of 2021. They cooked a bunch of food which we offer to our ancestors and while cooking they are not allowed to taste the food since it will taint the food that we're offering. My dad said he set up the chicken like this because it means that money will come in but won't go out. After plating all the food, we set it on the offering table that also includes fruit and alcohol. Typically, my parents use long red candles but they were out so we're using birthday candles. Then, we light some incense and pray to spirits and ancestors. This is my mom explaining how each of the fruits represents something for the new year.

Each year this is when they tell me that they hope I find a nice husband to settle down with. I usually laugh and they hand me li xi, which are red envelopes with money inside. And as you grow up, you realize the money aspect of it is not as important as the good luck your elders are gifting you. After that's done, we eat the food and play a card game that tells you your fortune for the year. Apparently, I won't have any good luck from how I played my cards but oh well. I wish you all a happy, healthy, and just overall a freaking awesome year. Happy Lunar New Year!
